PHÂN BIỆT VÀ CÁCH DÙNG

HISTORIC và HISTORICAL đều là tính từ của “history” (lịch sử), tuy nhiên chúng có nghĩa tương đối khác biệt. HISTORIC thường được dùng với các nghĩa bóng, nhấn mạnh vào tầm quan trọng, hoặc sự đặc biệt chưa từng được ghi nhận trong lịch sử, còn HISTORICAL đơn thuần chỉ những tài liệu, sự kiện, hiện vật thuộc về thời trước.

1. HISTORIC /hɪˈstɒr.ɪk/

HISTORIC là tính từ mang nghĩa “có tầm ảnh hưởng, mang tính lịch sử, là dấu mốc, bước ngoặt quan trọng”. (important or likely to be important in history)

Synonym: momentuous, remarkable, etc.

Ví dụ:

In a historic vote, the Church of England decided to allow women to become priests.Parts of the Berlin wall are being allowed to stand as historic monuments.How many historic buildings are damaged by fire each year?

2. HISTORICAL /hɪˈstɒr.ɪ.kəl/ 

HISTORICAL là tính từ mang nghĩa “liên quan tới lịch sử”, thường dùng để chỉ các văn bản, sự kiện, giá cả, tội phạm,… đã qua, thuộc về thế hệ trước. (connected with studying or representing things from the past)

Synonym: documented, actual, classical, archival, etc.
